One Poke or Two?

The doctor said I'd get a second beta if the first one was below 200 (it was above 200.)  Anything above that, they'd just see me in 2 weeks for the first ultrasound.  Am I the only person getting just one beta?  Is this strange...or within the normal range for standard of practice?

  1. i think most do 2 to make sure you have an appropriate rise in your number (b/c if you didn't it could be an ectopic). But you can have an ectopic with normal rise in beta, ala Jes. So when it comes down to it, I think the ultrasound's the only thing that really matters.

  2. I agree, I think the norm is two to monitor the doubling. I had two and my RE said I was good until the u/s...I asked for a third....I'm a little paranoid though!

  3. 2 seems to be the norm, my friend just got her first beta (221) and they're having her come back in two days. maybe you can ask them for one? it seems like a reasonable request.

  4. I'd ask for one, even if you have to pay for it. Peace of mind is priceless. A crazy high spike can mean ectopic, too (or multiples). My betas doubled normally.

  5. When is your u/s scheduled for? I'm with everyone else, I say you ask for a 2nd beta. Maybe you don't need it but if you want it you deserve it!
