Cycle 2 jinxed.

Really? seriously? Below is the reply from a "friend" after hearing that our first IVF cycle failed.

"=( I am sorry to hear that! I'm sure it can't be easy sitting and waiting with anticipation! So have you thought what route to go if time #2 doesn't go well? Will you use an egg or sperm donor? I will keep you in my prayers!"

Gosh, I'm just trying to make it through the day, still healing from cycle 1 disappointment, trying to "look forward" to cycle 2....and she has the nerve to ask what will we do if that fails too!!!!

PS: this friend has a 5 week old baby.

  2. Sounds like a friend of mine...who thinks *everything* is her business. Of course we've all thought of it, but it's nobody's business but ours unless we bring it up in conversation ourselves.

    I'm with HRD: insentive...idiotic.

    What a friend!

    "Steal your baby."

  4. I like KBs response. Try not to let someone's insensitive comment get to you. The next cycle will be better because the RE will correct what went wrong the last time. The odds of getting a good egg go up with each cycle. Focus on that.

  5. How increadibly insensitive! I have a friend who is quite similar & it drives me NUTS! I am trying my best to keep my distance until I feel well enough to cope without biting her head off!

  7. KB75, that was hilarious. Or you could embellish: "Well, I thought of stealing your baby, but it's so fucking UGLY ..."

    hahaaa I like LAP's responce!!

People can be soo fucking cruel, just another reason to stay AWAY from ALL fertile friends/family, they will NEVER understand how we feel and will always say something we don't need to hear. DAMN THEM ALL!!

  10. My cousin's ex wife (who I'm still very close to) is exactly like that. 2 Christmas's ago, when we were still just "having trouble" getting pregnant, she asked if we would ever try IVF. I snapped at her, like how dare you - it's not THAT serious. Now 2 years later, here we are. After our IVF failed, she asked me if we'd ever consider adopting which pissed me off. And she acts like she's been through what we're going through, because she has endo and in her words " it took them 3 years to get pregnant.." the funny thing is her husband was in Iraq for 18 mos and she was on Lupron for 6 more.. after that they got pregnant "accidentally." Hmmm.. Sorry girl, but you DON'T know what we're going through.

  11. Oops, I didn't mean adopting in general pisses me off. It pisses me off that we can't even get through one stage without her assuming it'll fail and looking at the next stage.

  12. Hmmm. I don't think your helping of sorrow is enough for today... let me add some more...
    Obviously NOT what you needed.

We're here. Pour yourself some hot cocoa and wrap yourself in an afghan and we'll listen anytime...

  13. insensitive - probably driven by cluelessness? i don't know. it's hard to make excuses for other people's comments after a while. and then you don't care what their excuse is, you're just pissed off!

  15. I love KB's comment. I always wish at those moments I could say something sharp and bitchy instead of choking on tears.
I think us IF girls should invoke the '30 second' rule - we are allowed to go back and 'reply' to idiotic comments when we've had time to stew.
