Weight Loss Buddies???

Ok... so anyone else trying to loose the "IVF 20"... LOL. I like that term. Jump on in... I'm on day #5 of the South Beach. Ugh. I want something sweet so bad, but I'm being stubborn. I have 62 days until vacation & starting another IVF cycle. Got to loose it. Anyone else want to share what they're doing, their goal & need some encouragement. (No rainbows or unicorns allowed... just realistic encouragement!) LOL!

  1. I'm joining!
    I had a transfer on Friday so I shouldn't be dieting, but what the hell! I shouldn't be drinking wine or taking painkillers either!

  4. I'd like to join in a couple weeks. Still recovering from the D&C and I don't want to start exercising for at least another week. Maybe we can do a Biggest Loser contest or something?? Winner gets baby dust from eBay

  6. I'm still struggling a bit with insomnia... and it didn't help that last night DH & I had a fight right before bed... so I didn't get to sleep until late & slept through breakfast. So, I started with my mid-morning snack... here's my day...

    snack... celery & peanut butter (I get fresh-ground at local market... only peanuts... nothing else)

    lunch ... chicken ceasar salad

    snack ... laughing cow cheese

    dinner ... grilled chicken & veggies & salad

    desert... no sugar added fudgesicle...

    Like I said, this is day #5 of SB for me. I'm needing to drop 20 by mid-May. I'm also doing about 30 mins of working out each day which is foreign to me since I never work out. I figure after 2 weeks, I'll up it to 45 mins a day.

    So far... I've lost 5 lbs. That's typical on SB though to have a chunk fall off at the beginning & then to slow to 1-2 lbs per week afterwards.

    I'm excited to get out of phase #1 and into phase #2... 9 days away. Then I'll add in fruits & whole wheats. I'm so looking forward to the fruits. I have a HUGE sweet tooth.

  7. Christa... LOL on the babydust from Ebay... maybe I can get some magic-weight-be-gone dust from there too while I'm at it. Take it easy post D&C. I'm 6 weeks post. TMI WARNING... it took about 2 weeks for bleeding to stop completely & 5 weeks for AF to show. It wasn't until AF showed that I kind of felt like my horomones weren't crazy.

  8. I've heard of the SB diet, my cousin was on it and lost a lot of weight. What are you doing for your exercise??

    Looks like we are having the same thing for dinner lol

    I was going to have rice with my chicken but figured since I had a whole pita for lunch (only 90 cals) I would leave out the rice. I'll be having a salad like you with veggies.

    How are you preparing your chicken?. I sometimes get tired of the same old grilled and boiled. If you have any good tips let me know!

  9. Here's the winner's package:
    * The babydust from eBay
    * A container of honey
    * A box of tampons
    * A date with Dave
    *A baseball bat to take on the date with Dave.

    I think everyone (even if not trying to lose weight) will join now just to get that date!

  11. So I need my first bit of encouragement because I'm STARVING.
    I lost 18 pounds in February and won that month's Biggest Loser at work ($95- but it doesn't compare to the date with Dave.) But, as soon as I stopped exercising for my retrieval and started eating like a pig, I can't get back. I am making excuses like, "Embryos like chocolate cake" and "I will be more stressed if I diet."
    Help! I just want to eat, eat, eat and the Progesterone isn't helping!

  12. I know how your feeling, I lost 60lbs b4 IVF and gained it all back. I also use to make those excuses too but it's us who has to pay for those excuses in the end.

    How about eating more throughout the day but make them healthier snacks. Or everytime your hungry down a big glass of water to fill yourself up then you eat less, I like to down a big glass of water b4 every meal that way I get full quickly. You could always give yourself a treat on the week-ends that way you have soemthing to look forward to.

    I like to use fresh fruits, yogurt & skim milk and make smoothies, they are super yum and kills the sweet tooth!

    Hang in there and stay strong

  13. P.S- Congrats on the wonderful weight loss in Feb, that's a huge accomplishment. You could also use that as encouragement, Just think about how hard it was to lose that and how hard you worked.

    You could always go look at Dave, I'm sure that would kill your appetite lol

  14. You girls are inspiring! This could be good! I used to be able to diet and stick with it for a few months, but now I give up so easily! Tried low carbing for the last IVF and lost about 10lbs. IVF failed and then I binged for two months over the holidays, ballooned up 15 lbs and then got pregnant. That was no-good so I ate my way through that scenario and then went on a cruise. So here I am up a total of 25lbs. I needed to lose 30 lbs when I started! So, I am in - but I just don't think I can do lowcarb again officially. But I am going to try to exercise and watch the processed foods and calories. I'm going to take my furry child for a walk tonight and maybe go to a yoga class. Meeting girlfriends for cardio kickboxing tomorrow night. Food is getting better but I'm not there yet.

    Today:
    lowfat frozen egg mcmuffin - only 4.5 g fat!
    high fiber granola bar (I am regretting this as it is working a little too well - TMI! :)
    Lean Cuisine
    100 cal snack of chips
    Dinner - not sure yet.

  15. I am so in!! Glad you like the "IVF-20"...it's amazing how one can gain 20 lbs in 2 days - that's what happened to me and my stupid idiot of a Dr (first RE) didn't warn me about the possibility of OHSS or that gaining 10 lbs overnight is a sure fire sign something is awry!
    Anyways... I need to lose another 5 so that I have something to play with - I LOVE, LOVE baked-goods and dark chocolate, so I need 5 lbs in reserve.
    I do yoga and pilates weekly - maybe I need to pick up the pace a bit?

    I'd give anything for a hot date with Dave! ~puke~

  16. I'm in. I hit my all time weight high two weeks ago. I've worked out everyday the last 10 days. I've been working to increase the number of steps I take everyday to be 10,000. (When I sit on my ass all day it is closer to 3,000.) I have a fancy pedometer that I love--check it out at fitbit.com. I'm having a much harder time on the food front. Having gone out for about 1 meal a day for the last week. I'm trying to just have a small amount and take the rest home as leftovers. For most of the last week I was only down about 1.5 lbs, then this morning it dropped another 1.5. Who knows why, but I'll take it! I've never been able to do diets like SB, WW, etc. I just try to cut down on the fatty & carb heavy stuff and get more of the good stuff - fruits, veggies, lean proteins. But I love to eat and I won't give up sweets. So now that I've fessed up, guess I'm going to have to keep going as I'll know all of you will be my wingmen. But I'm about to start traveling for work for the rest of the week and that is always death to my workout schedule and my eating habits go to hell.

  17. Good luck girls!!! Ill be your cheerleader!!!

  18. Krissy - LOL! I'm so tired of grilled chicken. I think it's coming out my nose. But... that's how I've been cooking it. Tomorrow I'm doing a lean roast in the crockpot so that will be a nice change. For exercise, I'm doing the Jillian Michael's workout for the Wii. It's actually kicking my butt! I'm so sore, but I'm happy I'm sore 'cause that means it's working. I've told myself after 2 weeks of doing that, I'm going to hit the gym. I have a membership I don't use.

    Anyone else having a problem with gaining all (ok so most) of your weight in the belly? I seriously look 5 - 6 months pregnant. I've always been a belly weight gainer, but lately it seems exaggerated. I'm really concentrating on the abs during workout. I'm tired of wearing something that's not even tight & looking like I'm prego. I've been able to wear the big baggy sweatshirts & sweaters, but summer is coming!

    Babywarrior - Wow! 18 in Feb is great! You can do it again! I joined the SB online thing and something it pointed out on there was interesting. They have you eat 3 meals & 2 snacks. If you're eating all of those (and that's more than I usually eat, but usually I eat junk) and you find yourself hungry, it could just be your body craving the junk. Try drinking a glass of milk. Dairy is supposed to be good for helping the sweets cravings. So far it seems to be helping me.

  21. Sooo Yesterday was good for me, no cheating at all lol

    I'm thinking about buying a work-out video just to get some extra cardio in since I know that is the key to success. Anybody have any good suggestions??

    Thanks for making that page Kiellara, you da girl ;)

    momsie-I wanted to get the wii but I can't really afford it right now, sounds like it's doing wonders for you. No pain no gain right??

    P.S.-I also have a membership that I no longer use, I was going 6 days a week and training 3 out of those that's how I lost 60lbs. That's when I decided it was time to start trying and all hell broke loose :(

    Today I'm having

    breakfast-Oatmeal (I loveee oatmeal)
    snack-honeydew & cantaloupe
    lunch-left over grilled chicken with veggies
    snack-ummmmm maybe apple or yogurt or both lol
    dinner-not sure yet, I'm thinking chicken stirfry with whole wheat rice..yummm

  22. I'm in! I've been trying to lose a pesky 10-20 lbs for years! The IVF just made it worse! And I HATE the pg rumors when I put on a little bulge.

    Please add me to the list. I've gone to the gym the past 2 days, and watched what I've been eating. I downloaded a calorie counter to my phone, but haven't used it yet. I have to work out and watch my eating to lose weight. I tried SB for 18 hrs once, then had to stuff a handful of Honeycomb cereal down my throat! I couldn't do it!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Kiellara - thanks for the page! You are so right that we love to keep track of everything! LOL!

    For anyone interested in SB, I've done it 2 other times... so this is my 3rd. The first time I did it was 10 years ago... at least. And I lost about 15 lbs. I did it just using the book & found it really hard & all the food boring after a week. The second time I did it was about 2 years ago & I signed up for the SB diet's online site. That to me made all the difference in the world! I lost about 20 lbs that time and then the IVF put it back on. Of course, I blame IVF but the truth is that probably half of that is my stress eating (thanks to IVF) but I KNEW I didn't need 6 cookies at a time! LOL! So, if you're interested in trying the SB, here is the skinny... (or not so skinny yet)

    Phase 1 lasts 1-2 weeks. You cut out sugars, anything baked, pastas, fruits, etc... Basically you are eating a lot of lean meats, eggs, dairy & veggies until they come out of your nose. It is NOT a low carb diet. Because you're cutting out a bunch of the baked & refined stuff, you do end up eating less carbs, but I know Atkins (which is low carbs) also cuts out a bunch of veggies. So, the first 3-4 days absolutely SUCK. I didn't get any headaches, but you feel like you're very blah. I think it's your body detoxing. BUT the good news is at about day 5, you start feeling GOOD. Really Good. Think about it. You're putting so many protien packed meats & eggs and vitamin packed veggies in your mouth, your body suddenly gets very happy. If you can make it past the first few days, you'll end up feeling very healthy & energetic. In the first phase, usually you drop 5-10 lbs quickly. I think it's the detox.

    Phase #2 - This is the actual weight loss phase after the detox. You add back in to your diet whole grains and some fruits in moderation. So, you can eat whole grain pasta, whole grain pitas, whole grain bread, apples with peanut butter & strawberries dipped in chocolate (yummmmm)... just to name a few. You just have to keep that in moderation. You continue this phase until you reach your desired goal weight & you usually loose 1-2 lbs. per week which is healthy.

    Phase #3 - is about long-term eating & it basically just is about always eating healthy. You will maintain your weight & not gain or loose.

    Like I said, signing up for the website is what has made all the difference for me. The biggest benefit is that it has so many food options & recipies! You can plan a menu for the week & it will give you a shopping list. It also has "quick meals" for days when you are on the go or need to pack a lunch. Also (very important to us IVF gals) it has a discussion board where you can talk to others that have been there or are doing it now & all the tracking features you could ever desire to watch your progress. Anyways, not trying to sell anyone on it, but just sharing what works for me. Also, if you're tight on funds (and thanks to IVF, who isn't?) you can sign up & the first week is free. You can print off a bunch of recipies & then cancell. They don't charge you until after the first week!

  25. Oh, something else. I'm not that great about it, but a free tool that can be helpful is www.fitday.com

    You can enter your food and keep track, your weight, exercise, etc. This is a nice option if you don't want to join a website or a specific diet group. They say people are more successful at losing weight if they log/track their food intake. I'm going to try it again.

  26. So, Tonight after work I'm going to buy Turbo Jams. It's a 5 disc DVD workout video collection. Has anyone ever tried this??

    p.s. I'm sooo craving chocolate (It's always been my downfall)

    Not to mention I'm also a receptionist and staring at me right now is a hugh dish I keep on my desk full of yummy swiss chocolates and creamy caramels....OMG!!!

  27. Krissy - Get the no sugar added fudgesicles. Yummy! And if I'm allowed to have them on SB phase #1, they can't be that terrible for you... and they hit that sweet/chocolate craving in just the right spot!

  28. Great, sounds good because I love love loveee fudgesicles so it should work out nicely. Thanks for the tip!
