Needing encouragement!!
Not feeling to good right now!! I just spoke with the acupuncturist at my clinic and the conversation was not very good. He was asking all types of questions and trying to find out what is going on with me. He told me with the number of eggs I had (14) and the number that was left after day 5 (4) it seems as though I may have an egg quality issue. He told me it's common with woman who have had a hydrosalpinx like I did. He also asked me if I have PCOS because I have very heavy AF and lots of clotting (which only started after my tubal surgery) I'm afraid now that it may be a waste of time to put those eggs back in. My RE also suggested that I may have bad egg quality due to the Hydro so now I'm freaking out again. Anyways he wants me to call him next week to come in for my first treatment. He wants me to do a few b4 transfer but honestly I have very little hope right now that this is going to work at all. Has anyone heard of people getting pregnant even with bad quality eggs? I just need some support right now to give me a little more hope than I have at the moment!!

I have seen/heard women getting pregnant with "crappy-looking" embryos and those that had "steller-looking" embryos get ziltch. I don't know what to think anymore -I honestly don't think these Drs know the real potential of the embryos. I had 3- 5day AAA embryos transferred and they must have fallen out of my uterus, cuz I didn't the highly coveted BFP. I am a believer that because there are way too many variables that it seems to just come down to luck. Is that moronic of me?
ReplyDeleteYou're thinking about doing a FET, right? I say do whatever you can do to make sure your uterus is in tip-top shape and root for the underdogs... that's what we are doing since I am not ready to go through yet another fresh cycle.
Sorry you are going through this- I know it's hard to hear the news that more things may be out of your control.
All I know is that after doing acupuncture for about 6 months I bought the book The Infertility Cure. It explains that even though you're born with all your eggs, it takes 5 months to fully mature an egg. So (in my opinion) if you need to work on egg quality you should probably start 5 months ahead of your cycle. That's what I'm trying to do. I have PCOS so I've been doing Metformin XR (it's better on my stomach than the regular kind), organic Royal Jelly that tastes like ass, wheatgrass and spirulina tablets (both recommended in the book), eating healthy and dieting. I did all that last time but only for about a month before my IVF. This time I'm starting 6 months early. If that doesn't work for me then I have no friggin clue what to do and I'll probably just give up and move on to adoption.
ReplyDeleteI have PCOS, and no one has ever mentioned that it affects egg quality. Does it? I thought the problems w/ PCOS were taken care of by doing IVF. Now I feel like the moron. So does that mean the rest of my frosties are all crappy?
ReplyDeleteBack to the original question: It always calms me a bit when I think about how I would prefer the crappy embryos NOT stick, b/c that could mean a birth defect or other problems. It still doesn't make it better.
this might sound stupid, but i went to the chiropractor before the FET that resulted in my one and only BFP (even thougth it ended in a chemical). i heard that proper alignment of the body helps with "alignment" of the uterus which can help implantation. so i decided what the hell and went one time before my transfer. i now i was grasping at straws - but hey...
ReplyDeleteBW- Don't freak out yet lol, He didn't say that PCOS affect egg quality, he just kept asking me if I had it (not sure why)He said the the Hydro can affect quality even though I had it removed.
ReplyDeleteBBB- Yes, I'm thinking about doing FET in April, I have been taking folic scid vitamins, baby aspirin & eating healthy to try preparing myself for it but now I'm wondering if my eggs were not good int he first place. I'm confused because the 4 that were day 5 blasts were grad AA (failed) and AB (frozen) the AB ones are what will be put back in for FET!
Christa- I don't really have 6 months, I'm to anxious to move forward esp with the announcement of my SIL recent pregnancy. I have been eating well and exercising regularly and should be having a few acupunture procedures b4 FET. I'm also going on the week-end to get some wheatgrass powder to take daily. So I'm hoping this will all help increase my chances.
Pemmie- Never thought of using a chiropractor b4, I guess it does make sence though. Thanks for the tip!!
BBB- That was folic acids (spelling error)
ReplyDeleteNOOOOOO!!! Not the powder you will gag, I swear it!! It tastes like someone mowed your lawn and put the grass clippings in a bottle and sold it for $30. Try the tablets.
ReplyDeleteI've read that PCOS does affect egg quality, I think because we ovulate later and that screws up the quality somehow. I always ovulated around cd20 or not at all. I've also read that the dysfunctional hormones tend to screw things up
Oh ok lol. I don't think they have the tablets at my local health food store but I will ask them when I'm there. Do you know of another place to get them? I'm in Ontario, Canada??
ReplyDeleteNo, I got mine at GNC but you can probably order it anywhere online
ReplyDeleteYea that's the same store I'm going to, GNC. I'll see if they have it, if not then I will order it online. I just hope it doesn't take to long to ship cause I'll be doing my FET early next month (yikes)
ReplyDeleteUnicorn fart alert! Stop letting every opinion someone has freak you out that you'll never be successful!!! Just because you haven't to date doesn't mean you won't be in the future. I think everyone who's failed a fresh cycle worries that their frozens won't work either. NO reason to think that. Maybe the endometrium wasn't just right in your fresh transfer...who knows. When you think about all the things that have to happen for success, it's a miracle that anyone ever gets pregnant! I think that the doctors are doing the best they can with the knowledge currently available when they grade embryos. I think some clinics probably do over grade and some probably under grade. I'm sure there is some element of luck that goes into it as well. Plus, the uterus. I think if you have regular menstrual cycles, you do not have PCOS...clotting doesn't usually have a lot to do with that. As far as PCOS and quality...I think Christa's right, the longer it takes for you to ovulate, the less "quality" the egg will be. And quality doesn't always refer to chromosomally normal or not. I think it more means ability to be fertilized and implant. I know you feel frustrated and hurried by what's going on around you, but don't let that suck all the hope out of you. K?
ReplyDeletebbchi, that totally the most positive msg I've heard without sounding unicorns, rainbows and baby dust! Thanks. It lifted my spirits a bit, coz I am freaking out right now about the results of my current FET... I am in 2WW and no darn symptoms!
ReplyDeleteBtw my IVF was also 'textbook perfect' and 2 grade A blasts were transferred... nothing is different this time, same embies, same uterus, same hormones, same me... just a different year!
Thanks a lot BBCHI, that msg really helped pick my spirits up. Your right, I really have to stop stressing out over something I really cannot change. I just have to pray to god that this will work!
ReplyDeleteThanks, bbchi, for grounding me. I get so wrapped up in this crap...
ReplyDeletebbchi~ You calmed me down too!! My FET is around the corner and I agree that a lot has to line up in order to ger pregnant - it still amazes me that fertiles wind up pg... if they only knew...
