Well, CRAP...

So, just wanted to vent a bit & shamelessly fishing for sympathy. I pulled a bone-head move this morning. We had some big geese in the front yard so I took one of my dogs out to see them. I knew she would want to chase them so I had her on a leash, but a long one so she could get closer without hurting the geese... So, bonehead me goes out with her & she sees them & looks at me like, "can I go see?" So, I say, "go ahead." and as it comes out of my mouth, I realize my mistake. I'm at the top of about 6 stairs to the ground. Well, she's a rather athletic thing (border collie) so she can go from stand-still to 60 in 3 steps. Well, not quite, but you get the drift. So, needless to say, I end up at the bottom of the stairs. After which, I can't put any weight on my right ankle. So, after a visit to the urgent care today, I'm now on my way to a foot surgeon. Broken. Crap. Like I needed this. No more working out. And... our nice vacation & cruise is only 5 weeks away. So, looks like I'll be in some sort of cast or boot for that. Can't I have just one good thing to look forward to? Argh. So, I put the diet on hold & had Coldstone Ice Cream & Vicodin for dinner.

  1. Oh Momsie - so sorry! That has to hurt! I would have done the same thing with the ice cream and vicodin though. FYI, on my last cruise, there were 3 men missing a leg walking on crutches, one dude with NO arms (with no prosthesis- no clue how he managed), and two ladies cruising around on those rascals. So, I think you will be just fine in a boot. DH will just have to wait on you hand and (pun intended) foot. :)

  2. Oh Momsie...lame! (Oh, wait...pun unintended, I promise.) Sorry you've got this other nonsense to worry about now, too. Hope you heal soon.

Coldstone & Vicodin? Best. Dinner. Ever!

  6. Well, called the surgeon that they wanted me to go see. First he can get me in is the 19th. WTF??? My foot is broken... seems to me it needs to be before then. Called the back up surgeon who can see me tomorrow. That's more like it. Talked to my chiropractor (who isn't involved in my foot drama, but I figured if anyone knew a good orthopedic surgeon, he'd be the one to know.) He said the first one is the best so that's why he's so hard to get into. The other one is good too. He said if I'm not happy with my appointment tomorrow to call him & he'll call himself & get me in asap somewhere else. Love my chiropractor.

  7. I have to say I love the way you write. I can totally picture the whole thing... the eager look on your dog's face...everything... genius.
But OUCH! And just when you were really getting into working out... this is crazy! I hope you're still able to do some dumbells or something with your arms. It'd be better if they can put on some kind of cast that could go in water. Then you could go in the pool and at least float on your back. Not sure if there's a cast like that. Maybe they'll send you for physical therapy? That's exercise, too.
I'm sorry this had to happen now. Maybe someone should've shot those geese instead of shooting our storks?

  8. OUCH! I think you need that cruise more than anything now! Just skip out on the shuffleboard game taking place on the Lido deck.

  9. Barren - LOL! Thanks

Well, all... I got good news. Phew. What the doc at the Urgent Care actually saw was not a break but some calcification. Phew. The orthopedic doc said he's seen it before & there is no break. He said it's just a bad sprain in my foot. Which, as it turns out, is way better than an ankle sprain. He said foot sprains get better in about 3-4 weeks. So, my cruise in 5 weeks is safe. I haven't been back to the gym (needless to say) but they do have an arm bicycle that I could do for cardio & I could do the arm portion of the circuit... and I'm guessing in a week or two, I can try swimming. Now I just have to get the diet back on track... I've been "junk fooding" (for me that's like self-medicating) and I'm scared to go near the scale! LOL!

  10. I'm glad it's not as bad as you originally thought, and it's great you didn't have to wait until the 19th to find out. Get better soon, and don't beat yourself up about the junk food.

  11. Sooo glad that it didn't end up being a break! Go easy on it though so it will be all healed and ready for your cruise! I hate that you hurt your foot but I must admit your story IS funny and it's totally something I can see myself doing!

I took my dog out on this trail close to home...it's a very busy trail and a lot of it is boardwalk. Izzy's very well socialized and not much scares her but this guy was coming our way on rollerblades, no big deal except he had a big hockey stick in hand and it apparently freaked Izzy out. I had no idea what was happening until I saw Izzy diving over the side of the boardwalk! I about dove with her because I didn't think my leash was long enough (it was a 3 to 4 foot drop). After the guy passed Izzy jumped back up like nothing had happend. I had to laugh because it was just so random and funny.
